If you are using Facebook as one of the ways to market your business then you need to be aware of the latest changes made by the mighty Mr Zuckerberg and the powers that be at Facebook (on 22nd September 2011), and their implications on how you use Facebook as a marketing tool.
As a user you have more control over the information featured in the newsfeed on your personal profile (a control has been added in the top right of each story that allows you to unmark a ‘top’ story), but over time, Facebook will use this ‘intelligence’ to auto-edit your newsfeed and Facebook will then decide what you see on your personal wall.
So, if you are using Facebook to market your business you now have to work much harder in terms of what you post. You now have to earn your place in news feeds and make your posts high value to ensure they are not unmarked as a ‘top’ story by your followers. Vague, uninteresting or irrelevant posts will not cut it – put more thought into what your followers will need to know from you.
Facebook has forced you to rethink your content strategy which, actually, in marketing is a very good thing.
