Phew! Today was day two of my stint as Secretary to the Judges for the CIPR Excellence Awards. I love this contract as I get to work with many senior PR professionals who are the judges as well as meet other PRs who have been shortlisted in the awards and find out more about their great campaigns. It was a mammoth day though with two categories to be judged, each with 6 shortlisted entrants.
This morning was the turn of Internal Communications with six strong campaigns. The entries covered safety on construction sites, corporate strategy, sponsorship of that little sporting event taking place in London later this summer (you know which one I mean!), an IT security code of conduct, encouraging staff to have a flu jab, and head office staff working out in the businesses. A real mixed bag as you can see, each with its own challenges, but all showcasing really good work in internal communications.
This afternoon was still full on with another six campaigns shortlisted, this time in the Consumer Relations category – a category which always highlights what can be achieved on small as well as large budgets. The judges delved deeper into campaigns about first aid, a new sweetener to the market, children’s literacy, a beauty product, and two that took advantage of the opportunities provided by Wills and Kate getting married nearly a year ago now.
These Excellence judges do love making their job difficult as all the campaigns shortlisted were so different to each other. Have no fear though, a winner for each category was chosen so that makes 4 winners in the bag so far … just another 24 to go!
It’s an easier day tomorrow with only one category being judged.
